We've reviewed 100+ resumes. Here's what we learned.

(No gate-keeping here)

Since launching HireMe, we’ve personally reviewed hundreds of resumes, from current students to recent grads to professionals. And if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s this: most resumes don’t get rejected because people aren’t qualified.

They get rejected because…
- They’re not tailored to the job OR
- They don’t speak the hiring manager’s language OR
- They never make it past the ATS

So here are 3 simple but game-changing tips I wish everyone knew when it comes to writing a resume that actually gets you interviews:

1. Your resume needs to pass the 7-second test.

Harsh truth: Recruiters and hiring managers don’t have time to “figure out” how your experience fits. Your job is to make it obvious.
1. Write with their pain points in mind
2. Highlight the skills and wins that matter for this specific role
3. Use the job description like a cheat sheet (especially in terms of keyword optimization)

2. Beat the ATS (or don’t get seen at all)

Over 80% of resumes get screened out by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) before a human ever reads them.
Here’s how to make sure yours isn’t one of them:
- Match keywords from the job post (e.g., “Customer Experience” vs. “Client Support”)
- Avoid complex designs, no pictures, tables, columns, or graphics
- Save and send as a PDF (unless the job says otherwise)

3. Show Impact, Not Just Activity

Most resumes sound like job descriptions. Instead, you need to prove you made a difference.
Bad: “Managed marketing campaigns across channels”
Improved version: “Launched multi-channel campaigns across XYZ platforms that increased qualified leads by 35% in Q2”

Focus on:
- Strong action verbs
- Numbers + metrics (even estimates are better than nothing)
- Results that relate to what they care about

Bonus tip: If you’re not getting interviews, the problem probably isn’t you. It’s your resume.

P.S. We’ve expanded our job search tool to more listings across the US, UK and India, packed with the same strategies that helped me and others land interviews at top startups and Fortune 500 companies!

  • Meta is piloting a new interview format that allows selected candidates to leverage AI assistants during live coding tests, a shift in how technical competency is evaluated. The company is conducting mock sessions internally to fine-tune this approach, aiming to mirror real-world developer workflows and address cheating risks via LLM tools. This move signifies a broader shift: Meta wants to assess AI collaboration skills, prompt engineering, and whether candidates can evaluate and refine AI output, not just write code from scratch
This new direction diverges sharply from other tech firms like Amazon and Anthropic, which continue to ban AI use during interviews.

  • Walmart, despite broader trends, continues expanding its tech team, recently hiring an executive from Instacart to lead global AI initiatives. It is actively recruiting for AI and cloud roles, offering great compensation to attract talent.

  • Google has encouraged its engineers to adopt an “AI-first” mindset, using internal AI tools to increase efficiency, and has begun retraining staff accordingly.
