Are you thinking about average salaries in different careers? Here are some to consider:
Investment Banking (IB) | $159,000 – $161,000 |
Consulting | $104,250 – $105,750 |
Tech (FAANG/Big Tech) | $139,000 – $141,000 |
Healthcare (Doctors) | $213,250 – $216,750 |
Pharma / Biotech | $109,000 – $111,000 |
Finance (non-IB) | $94,250 – $95,750 |
Data Science / Analytics | $119,000 – $121,000 |
👉 PS. These are base salaries. Add bonuses and stock, and the numbers go way up (especially in tech and Investment Banking).
The Cold Email That Changed Everything:
I spent 3 months looking for a job and didn’t land a single interview. No replies. No callbacks. Just silence.
I was frustrated and ready to give up. So, on a whim, I cold-emailed the VP of one consulting firm and a director at another. I didn’t know either of them. I didn’t have a mutual connection. I honestly didn’t expect a reply.
But they both responded.
We grabbed quick coffee chats, where I walked them through my background and what I was hoping to do. Not only did they refer me internally, they even connected me with others (managers) on their teams.
That experience taught me that sometimes the best opportunities don’t come from job boards, they come from bold, confident outreach.
Here’s the email I sent for a role I was genuinely excited about:
Hi [Insert Name],
Hope you’re doing well! I’m Harshvi Shah, and I’m currently pursuing my M.S. in Health Informatics at Weill Cornell Medicine, after earning a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from Imperial College London.
I recently applied for the [Insert Role] and was really inspired by your team’s approach to [insert something relevant like “transforming drug development,” “data-driven care,” or “health innovation”]. I would love the chance to learn more about your work and what it’s like being part of the team.
From leading rare disease analytics at Know Rare to consulting on healthcare delivery models at The John A. Hartford Foundation, my background blends strategy, data, and impact, and I’d be excited to bring my experience to your team.
If you’re open to it, I’d really appreciate the chance to connect briefly over Zoom or coffee. I’ve attached my resume below and would love to learn more about your experience and journey.
