How To Answer "Tell Me About Yourself" Question

Here’s how to make a great first impression in your interview:
When an interviewer asks you “tell me about yourself” in an interview, follow this format:
Start with the past: Where did you grow up? Previous experience/internships? Previous educational degrees? (20 seconds)
Present: Current degree - when do you graduate? Current work experience? Mention 1-2 accomplishments that is relevant to the job description. (30 seconds)
Future: What drew you to this opportunity / company? Why does this role interest you? (45 seconds)
Tie your story together and mention how excited you are about this opportunity! (15 seconds)
Here are some behavioral questions that you are probably going to be asked:
Greatest failure and how you overcame it:
- "Can you tell me about your greatest failure and how you overcame it?"
- "Describe a time when you failed to meet a goal. How did you handle the situation and what did you learn from it?"
Describe a time you have made a mistake and how you overcame it:
- "Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work. How did you handle it and what was the outcome?"
- "Describe a situation where you made a mistake and how you managed to resolve it."
Describe a challenge you overcame/tell me about a time you took a risk:
- "Describe a significant challenge you faced at work and how you overcame it."
- "Can you give an example of a risk you took in your professional career and how it turned out?"
Tell me about a time you went above and beyond:
- "Give an example of a time when you went above and beyond what was expected of you at work."
- "Describe a situation where you exceeded expectations."
Tell me about the time you felt like you made the most impact:
- "When did you feel you made the most significant impact in your job?"
- "Can you describe a time when your contributions made a noticeable difference?"
