Get ready: the interview questions they will ask you

Behavioral questions that decide your offer...

The Truth:

In consulting, behavioral interviews are often the final round. Many candidates make the mistake of thinking they don’t need to prepare, but that’s far from the truth.

Even in tech, behavioral questions still matter. You could ace every technical question, but if you stumble on the behavioral portion, your chances of landing the offer drop significantly.

That’s because behavioral interviews assess what technicals cannot: how you think, how you communicate, and how you’d fit into the team.

Here are some common behavioral questions you’re likely to be asked, no matter your industry:

Failure & Mistakes

  • Can you tell me about your greatest failure and how you overcame it?

  • Describe a time when you failed to meet a goal. How did you handle it and what did you learn?

  • Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work. How did you handle it and what was the outcome?

Challenges & Risks

  • Describe a significant challenge you faced and how you overcame it.

  • Can you give an example of a risk you took and how it turned out?

Impact & Going Beyond

  • Give an example of a time you went above and beyond what was expected.

  • When did you feel you made the most significant impact in your role?

Teamwork & Leadership

  • Describe a situation where you had to resolve a conflict within your team.

  • Tell me about a time you demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Describe a time you collaborated with others to achieve a goal.

Struggles & Growth

  • Talk about a time you struggled with a task. How did you overcome it?

  • What do you consider to be your greatest strengths? Weaknesses?

  • Tell me about a time you had to learn something new quickly.

Goals & Persuasion

  • Describe a goal you set and how you achieved it.

  • Tell me about a time you had to persuade someone to accept your idea.

Deadlines & Priorities

  • Give an example of a time you worked under a tight deadline.

  • Tell me about a time you had to juggle multiple priorities.

  • Describe a situation where you had to prioritize tasks—what came first and why?

Feedback & Adaptability

  • Tell me about a time you received constructive feedback. How did you respond?

  • Describe a situation where you had to adapt quickly to major changes.

Resourcefulness & Stress

  • Can you give an example of achieving results with limited resources?

  • Tell me about a time you had to perform well under pressure.

Ethics & Improvement

  • Describe a time when you faced an ethical dilemma. How did you handle it?

  • Tell me about a process you improved or made more efficient.

Communication & Diversity

  • Describe a time when you had to deliver bad news to a client or colleague.

  • Tell me about a situation where you worked with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

👉 You don’t need perfect answers to all of these, but preparing structured stories (using the STAR method: Situation, Task, Action, Result) for at least a handful in each category will put you way ahead of the average candidate.

Pro tip: have your resume on another screen incase you need to reference specific experiences from your past during the interview.
