3 Mistakes We Made While Job-Searching

(You might be making these right now)

Job-searching tips:

  • Submitted 100+ COLD applications. I created a resume and started submitting applications. I didn’t conduct any informational interviews or ask for referrals. I thought submitting my resume would be enough for employers to see my potential.

  • Didn’t leverage LinkedIn. I did have a LinkedIn profile, but I never posted anything, and I never interacted with other people's posts. I didn't understand how to use LinkedIn and didn't see any value to engaging here.

  • If I got an interview, I didn’t prepare for it well and left the preparation to the last minute, which was a disaster in casing interviews.

Learn from my mistakes and don’t stop networking until you have received the offer letter. Revamp your job search by ditching the "spray and pray" method. Tailor your resume and cover letter to each specific role, highlighting relevant skills and experiences. Become a LinkedIn pro! Update your profile, connect with people in your field, and engage with industry content. Finally, ditch the last-minute interview prep. Research the company and common questions, practice your responses, and even consider mock interviews to ensure you're prepared.

First day of your internship tomorrow? Remember these 3 things!

  • Dress Professionally
First impressions matter. Whether it’s in-person or virtual, how you show up says a lot. Research the company’s dress code ahead of time (check their socials or ask your recruiter), and when in doubt, go business casual. Clean, well-fitted clothes can never go wrong. Keep it polished, especially on Day 1.

  • Be Early, Be Prepared
Log in or arrive at least 10–15 minutes early. Review your onboarding schedule, bring a notebook, and have questions ready. Being prepared shows you’re serious about learning and that you’re proactive.

  • Smile + Introduce Yourself
It’s your chance to set the tone. Be warm and approachable, say hi to your team and introduce yourself, even if you’re nervous. Building relationships starts on day one.
